Crowns & Bridges

Crowns, used to cover a tooth, may be recommended for a variety of reasons. Custom made for each tooth, crowns restore the tooth to its original size and shape while reinforcing it’s structure. They may be used when a large part of the tooth is missing, worn, or damaged; when a tooth is discolored or misshapen; or to cover a dental implant.

Bridges are a natural looking way to replace one or more missing teeth by using adjacent healthy teeth to support the restoration. Replacing missing teeth benefits a patients appearance and health. Bridges help maintain the shape of a patient’s face, alleviate stress in the bite, eat and speak with greater ease and comfort, and increase confidence in a patients smile.

The size and shape of each tooth affects the function of the jaw in a variety of ways - from guiding how it moves, to determining the angle at which it rests. Misshapen teeth can lead to tooth damage, joint problems, headaches and other conditions. It is our philosophy to treat the mouth as a system. Accordingly, Dr. Adriana Jaramillo may recommend a bite analysis as part of fitting a patient with new crowns or bridges.

Like fillings, crowns and bridges can be made from a variety of materials. Color, cost, area of tooth being repaired, and the function of the tooth being repaired are all important factors to consider when choosing the most appropriate material for your needs. Dr. Adriana Jaramillo will help you understand the options available and find the one that best fits your individual case.
